Hello, everyone!
Welcome back. As always, thanks for reading! I’m excited because I finally get to share the cover of House of Bone and Rain. It was done by Gregg Kulick, who also did the cover for The Devil Takes You Home. Anyway, here it is!
I love it. I hope you love it too. You can read an excerpt now over at CrimeReads:

Also, B&N has their 25% off preorders going, which means you can preorder it now, forget about it in a day or two, and then in August—BAM!—your future self gets a book in the mail you weren’t expecting. I’ve done it many times and it’s awesome. Hah. Here’s the link for that:

Also, I’m reading a lot, and by that I mean even more than usual. When I moved to Austin in 2008, I lived in a 240-square-feet studio on the corner of 45th and Guadalupe. I had no friends, no car, and no money, so I read a lot. Whenever I had an extra dollar or two, I’d go to the Half Price Books on North Lamar and buy books from their clearance section, which were all $1 back then. I was usually able to find some gems and read a lot of amazing stuff that first year: Harry Crews, Richard Fariña, Lawrence Block, Nicholson Baker, etc. Anyway, life changed and then I started reading for reviewing purposes, which meant I had to slow down, take notes, etc. I still read a lot, but it was less that during those first two year. The start of 2024 sort of flipped a switch. Between reading for my New York Times column, NPR, the Boston Globe, Locus, and stuff to blurb, I’m now reading in the morning, during the day, and then at night again instead of watching something. I love it.
That’s it for now! More soon. Stay cool.
