Interestingly, the same scammers seem to also run a "company" called McGilligan Publishing, purporting to be owned by Patrick McGilligan, the pretty decently known biographer. Using his image and name and everything. Had a chat myself with good ol' Nas on that website and he claimed they worked with John Grisham. Weird scammy stuff.

This is hilarious. How can anyone be that bad at running a scam? Thanks for calling them on it.

Great investigative reporting! I hate getting these scam calls. I swear one was the same voice Tod G. once recorded and put on FB. haha.

Ha! I vet agents before submitting, but one in the UK slipped by me and responded to my query the very next day. I did some further research and they still appeared to be legit, but I had a funny feeling, so I fed ChatGTP this prompt: "Write a pitch for a paranormal cozy titled Cats in the Belfry." I then submitted that (ridiculous) pitch, under a different name, and again got a next-day response ("We are interest in your project, please send complete manuscript.) They're fishing for paid editorial work, probably multiple iterations with a teaser at each stage.
